Master Hongyi, originally named Li Shutong, also known as Li Xishuang, Li An, and Li Liang, has a genealogical name of Wentao and a young name of Chengqi. His scientific name is Guanghou, with the name Xishuang and the alias Shutong. Born in Li Zhai, Tianjin in 1880, he was born into a wealthy family and received strict education from a young age. At the same time, his family members were devout Buddhists. He was influenced by Buddhism from a young age and could recite the "Great Compassion Mantra" and "Death Mantra". Li Shu was born into a scholarly family and began learning traditional culture from a young age. Under its strict constraints, he developed good habits and later delved into various fields. At the age of 15, he wrote the beautiful story of "life is like a day in the Western Mountains, and wealth is like frost on the grass." Due to being born into a wealthy family and his own personality, Li Shutong began to listen to plays from time to time, just like other children of wealthy families, and enjoyed it tirelessly. In the end, I even liked the actor Yang Cuixi, and in the end, it was my own wishful thinking that brought me a myriad of worries. Afterwards, I began to learn the Eight Part Essay, poetry, seal script, seal printing, and so on. At the age of 18, he achieved his own marriage and married the Yu family. Afterwards, he began to learn music and composition. At that time, Li Shutong had great ambitions and later went to Shanghai. So he joined the "Chengnan Literature Society" and lived a life of literati and refined scholars. Establish the "Shanghai Calligraphy and Painting Association". Later, he studied at Cai Yuanpei and was influenced by his ideas. In 1903, the "Shanghai Society" was established in Shanghai and composed songs such as "The Song of the Motherland". In 1906, he published the "Collection of Traditional Chinese Singing". My childhood mother left and then came to Japan to study abroad. In September 1906, the "Chunliu Society" (the first drama group in China) was established in Japan, which was formerly renamed "Li An". Later, in "The Camellia Woman", the man disguised as the Camellia Woman, causing a sensation. During an exchange, he met his Japanese wife, Chengko, and devoted himself to painting and music. In 1911, he returned home with Chengzi. Due to his family's decline, he had to come out to make a living and began teaching literature and music as a teacher. In 1915, he taught at Nanjing Higher Normal School and composed the "Nanjing University Song". Later, Xu Xiangyuan, one of the "Five Friends of the World," came to bid farewell. Li Shutong called Chengzi to play the piano and wrote the famous "Farewell" with great emotion, which can be said to be a household name and is still widely praised. In 1916, seeing that "fasting" can cultivate one's body and mind, he "fasted" for 17 days. Later, he felt this and had the idea of leaving home. There is no Li Shutong in the world anymore, only Master Hongyi chose to become a monk when his life reached its peak, which can be said to be a sensation. By 1918, Li Shutong had arranged everything and came to Hupao Temple to officially become a monk. He was ordained at Lingyin Temple. At that time, Japanese wife Chengzi had traveled all over the country to persuade Li Shutong to go back. When he saw Li Shutong, tears flowed down his face. Master Hongyi once stated in his letter that it was not his ruthlessness, but that he had found a higher pursuit. For this belief, I must let go of everything. Putting aside all the fame and fortune, these are external things, I hope she can see through everything in this mortal world and prove the truth of life as soon as possible. After becoming a monk, Master Hongyi adhered to the clear rules and regulations of Buddhism and devoted himself to studying the laws and regulations. He went to Jingyan Temple, Haichao Temple, and Jingting Temple.
