Ministry of Revenue Qing Dynasty Copper Coins

In October 1905 (the 31st year of the Guangxu reign), the Qing government established the Ministry of Revenue Mint in Tianjin to start minting the new type of copper coins known as the "Great Qing Copper Coins" and issued the "Ten Articles of Regulations for Rectifying the Round Law", which stipulated that "the quality of copper coins was determined to be 97% purple copper, 3% white copper, and originally 1% tin tin"; When the weight is fixed, it should be four coins for twenty, two coins for ten, one coin for five, and four cents for two; "Unified production of Qing Dynasty copper coins, with ancestral molds issued by the Ministry of Revenue, all identical to those minted by the main factory, except for the addition of the name of the province on the front for easy examination. Each coin must be submitted to the Ministry of Revenue of the Ministry of Finance for testing, and the Ministry of Revenue of the Ministry of Finance shall send important personnel to inspect it at any time." "Copper coins minted by each province should be ordered to have its official money appraisal bureau set up, and pricing should be determined based on market conditions. They should be sent and received at any time, and held in trust."; Copper coins minted by each province are not allowed to be sold in bulk for daily use. If copper coins are needed by each province, they can be prepared at the main factory for collection. While the merger of the Copper Yuan Bureau was successfully implemented, the daily amount of copper coins minted in each province was also limited to avoid repeating the mistakes of excessive production. Afterwards, the Qing government renamed the Ministry of Revenue as the "Du Branch" and ordered various provincial mints to change their names to the Du Branch Mint Branch in order to unify and consolidate the centralization of central mint power.
The notable features of copper coins during this period are the Chinese characters "Qing Dynasty Copper Coins" stamped on the obverse, with "Hubu" and Ganzhi Chronological Characters listed on the left and right edges. In the later period, "Hubu" was removed and only Ganzhi Chronological Characters were left, with the Manchu character "Qing Dynasty Copper Coins" listed on the upper edge and the chronological value characters listed on the lower edge; On the back is the unified coiled dragon, also known as the "Ministry issued Dragon" or "Great Qing Dragon". The upper edge is marked with the words "Made in the year of Guangxu" in the early period and "Made in the year of Xuantong" in the later period. The lower edge is marked with the English words "TAI CHING TI KUO COPPER COIN", which is translated as "Bronze Coin of the Great Qing Empire" in Chinese. There is no writing in the center of the obverse of the copper coins minted by the Ministry of Revenue. Each province has a single province name in Yin script in the center of the obverse of the copper coins minted, and some are also in Yang script to indicate differences. The currency value is divided into four types: twenty wen, ten wen, five wen, and two wen. At this stage, the "Xuantong Yuanbao" copper coins were cast in Xinjiang, and the "Xuantong Treasure" copper coins were cast in Xizang. Although the Qing government carefully planned to reform the currency system, it was unable to effectively curb the nationwide trend of casting copper coins on a large scale. The various provincial bureaus, in order to benefit themselves, went against the rules. The border province of Yunnan dared to violate the edict prohibiting the establishment of new factories. In 1907 (the 33rd year of the Guangxu reign), a bureau was established to cast the "Yun" character Qing copper coins. The use of copper coins has important practical and historical significance, making transactions gradually more convenient. The Qing Dynasty copper coins ceased to circulate in 1911 (the third year of the Xuantong reign) and had a relatively short circulation time. Due to its elegant layout design, exquisite carving, and extremely rare surviving quantity, the Ten Treasures of the Ministry of Revenue in the Guangxu year of the Qing Dynasty copper coin were praised as one of the top ten honors in modern Chinese coin making.

Recently, our company has collected a copper coin from the Ministry of Revenue in the year of Bingwu, with a diameter of 27.7mm and a weight of 6.2g. The surface of the coin is naturally coated, and the handwriting on the front and the dragon pattern and English characters on the back are clearly visible. Extremely valuable for collection and viewing, with enormous potential for appreciation, even laymen who have not studied the Qing Dynasty copper coins cannot put it down. The coin has a perfect appearance, with the four characters "Qing Dynasty Copper Coin" stamped on the inner circle of the bead on the obverse side. At the raised center of the coin, one can see the character "E", which is the abbreviation of Hubei Province; The upper ring of the Pearl Circle is written in Manchu, with the words "Bingwu" on the left and right sides of the Manchu calendar, and the words "Hubu" on the left and right respectively, indicating the issuing department of this coin; The lower ring is covered in green rust, but the value of the currency can still be seen with the words "ten wen when making coins".
The central design on the reverse of the coin features a grand Qing dragon issued by the Ministry, reflecting the integration of international politics, economy, and culture at that time, which is of great historical significance. It is a precious masterpiece that combines collection and investment! Nowadays, the Qing Dynasty copper coins also have certain collectible value, and many collectors are fond of them, and collecting a variety of copper coins has become their goal. Coin collection has now become a new form of collection and investment, with many ancient coins performing exceptionally well.
