The painting "Eight Steeds" has been popular since the Six Dynasties. The painting depicts eight good horses driven by King Mu of Zhou during his tour of Kunlun Mountains. The names of the Eight Steeds are recorded differently in different books. In Wang Jia's "Records of the Past", it is recorded that "the names of the Eight Steeds are: first, they are called Jedi; second, they are called flipping feathers; third, they are called rushing into the sky; fourth, they are called Yue Ying; fifth, they are called Yue Hui; sixth, they are called Chao Guang; seventh, they are called Teng Wu; and eighth, they are called carrying wings."; In the Biography of Emperor Mu, it is recorded that Hualiu, Qian'er, Chiji, Baixi, Quhuang, Yuelun, Thief Li, and Shanzi (Liu Zongyuan's "Illustrated View of the Eight Steeds" adopted this statement). In the era of Liu Zongyuan, many famous writers and poets suddenly wrote a lot of poems and essays about the Eight Steeds. Famous examples include Bai Juyi's "Eight Steeds" in "New Yuefu", Yuan Zhen's five character ancient poem "Eight Steeds", Li Guan's "Preface to the Eight Steeds of King Mu of Zhou", and so on. This literary phenomenon may be related to Emperor Dezong of Tang's "Wang Yun Zhui Ma". In March of the first year of Yuanxing, due to the rebellion of Li Huaiguang, Emperor Dezong of Tang visited Liangzhou and rebelled against the capital in July. Regarding this matter, Yuan Zhen said in the preface of the poem "Wang Yun Zhui Ma": "Emperor Dezong passed away on the path of seven horses with eight horses passing through Shu, but he did not stop seeing Yun Zhui and his father died in the Heavenly Stables during the reign of Zhenyuan." Li Zhao's "Supplement to the National History" also talked about this matter, saying that Wang Yun Zhui: "After his father died in the Flying Dragon Stables, many noble relatives wrote about it." It seems that at that time, the reverence for "Eight Horses" reached a new climax through Dezong's love for his horse.

Taking Xu Beihong, Qi Baishi, and Bai Xueshi as role models, he devoted himself to studying the painting techniques of ink animals, flowers, birds, fish, and insects. In 1982, he went to the Central Academy of Fine Arts to study. Due to his talent for painting animals, especially horses, he was deeply loved by Mr. Liu Boshu, who was then the Vice Dean of the Central Academy of Fine Arts and a disciple of Xu Beihong. He was accepted as a disciple and focused on guiding the brushwork and techniques of Jing Hong's rock painting ink horses, which had a profound impact on his later development.

Recently, our company has collected a painting of Jing Hongyan's "Eight Steeds", which is 120cm long and 63.5cm wide. The entire painting is brightly colored, with smooth brushstrokes and full of form and spirit, creating a diverse and graceful horse. The halo dyeing is applied entirely according to the shape and structure of the horse, with a distinct intensity of ink, which not only reflects the shape of the factory horse but also does not affect the charm of the ink. The eight horses have different forms, graceful and agile, either galloping and jumping, or looking back with a long hiss, or soaring into the air, with four hooves smoking. There is a poem that says: Mo Dao, Yun Peng's brushstrokes are wild, re describing the light and writing the boundless horse. Dip your hair in the river water for a long time, and your essence will melt and fill with frost. Excellent works can be filled with Han Gan's short, and the artwork can be drawn from the master painter. Whips galloping for thousands of miles, fragrant after stepping on the sweet city hooves. According to legend, these eight horses each have their own names. One is called the Jedi, who can fly in the air without trampling on the ground or landing on the ground; One is called Fanyu, which can run faster than a flying bird; A person named Benjing travels thousands of miles at night; One is called Superlight, which can chase the sun and sprint; One is called Yue Hui, the colors of horse hair are incredibly brilliant and radiant; One is called Chaoying, with ten shadows on the body of a horse; A person named Tengwu, driving through the clouds and mist, galloping; One is called Jiayi, with wings growing on his body, soaring 90000 miles like a great Peng. Each horse represents different values and spiritual pursuits, reflecting the rich connotations and philosophical ideas in traditional Chinese culture. Jing Hongyan integrated his own artistic style and era characteristics in the creation of the Eight Steeds painting, forming a unique artistic charm and cultural value.
